課程概述 |
This course aims to equip you with knowledge and techniques you will need for writing an academic research paper, through an introduction to academic English and the framework of each part of an academic paper. You will also learn how to give an effective presentation of your research. The lecture will be conducted in Chinese, with the class material mostly in English. |
課程目標 |
I. You will develop writing skills through guided practice and peer-review. (CILO 1, 2, 3 & 4)
II. You will analyze structural features of research papers. (CILO 1, 2 & 3)
III. You will compose a draft of the introduction section of your research, making use of the moves and techniques that you have learned from the course. (CILO1, 2, 3 & 4)
IV. You will practice tailoring your written and oral presentations to your target audience. (CILO 1, 2 & 5) |
課程要求 |
I. Participation and engagement: These cannot merely develop and test your own understanding but also clarify material presented in lectures. An absence on the first lecturing day is considered disqualification. If one's absence reaches one third of the whole period, a fail will be given.
II. Note-taking: It helps you process and understand the information you receive. Late assignments will not be accepted.
III. A library is the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life. Please take an advantage of it. Paper proofreading service is not offered.
IV. Cogito ergo sum”: This is a philosophical proposition by René Descartes. The simple meaning of this phrase is that I am thinking, therefore I exist. So, please try to think in a critical, creative, and rational way as being immersed in learning.
V. Time is the most precious thing you have and you can give to someone but you can never get it back. Please cherish time to learn and unfetter yourself in learning. Show me the heart unfettered by foolish dreams and I will show you a happy man!
VI. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I am glad to help you. Please be responsible. Further information will be announced if necessary. |
